9 Steps Towards a More Balanced Life

9 Steps Towards a More Balanced Life

    Life does not provide us with a manual on how to lead the perfect life. The fact is, that there is no perfect life, but instead a well-balanced life and so often you will find that people strive for perfection when what they should strive for is balance. Even so, once we figure this out, everyone is different. What might work to create a balance for one person, may not work in the exact same way for another so what can we do. While this is true,  I find that there are steps that we can take to find a happy and healthy balance that we can all benefit from in one way or another. The following are 9 steps that can help you create the type of balance that is conducive to leading a happy and healthy life:

1. Think Positively

  The notion of thinking positively may sound like a slightly cliché notion to some people out there, but the fact of the matter is that you’re thoughts have power. We are constantly sending out a frequency to the Universe with our thoughts, so what you send out is what you get back.  Think about it: have you ever noticed how when you’re stressed out it seems that stress only seems to multiply around you. Well that because your mind is focused on stress, so you’re sending the universe of frequency based on stress. The universe being impartial and unbiased will give you exactly what you asked for: more stress.

Now you might be thinking, “How rude of the universe! Why would you give me more stress?” See, the thing is the Universe does not differentiate between positive or negative. So even if you’re thinking I DON’T want stress,” all the Universe is hearing is: stress. This is why it is a good idea to practice and implement thinking positively. I mean how much nicer would it be to get back some positive energy over negative? When you send out positive energy, you are reflecting the type of energy you want returned.

2. Exercise Daily

    Exercise! Yes, I know…some of us have not seen the inside of a gym since we were in high school and the thought of going is not an appealing one, but exercising is an important factor in staying healthy. This does not mean that you have to go to the gym every day. However, you do need to make an effort to take care of your body.  As such, you can start off with very simple exercises that you can complete at home without any type of equipment. Make it part of your daily ritual, to set aside some time, say 30 minutes and dedicate it to exercising.  Even going outside for a walk is a great form of exercise for someone who isn’t regularly active.

Exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous for it to be effective.  In fact, if you are starting out it is best that you start off slowly so as to not injure yourself. There are a plethora of workout routines that you can choose from online. There are even some great personal trainers on Instagram who post videos of different workouts that you can try if you our just starting out. So stop beating around the bush and get to it.  Remember: the better care you take of your body now, the better off you will be in the long run.

 3. Eat Healthy

      As a foodie, this is one of my favorite steps.  Most people assume that in order to eat healthy they have to sacrifice taste. Nothing could be further from the truth.  Nowadays, you can find amazing recipes to create healthy dishes that are not only good for you, but that also tantalize your palate. Even some of your favorites, like brownies or cookies, can be made using ingredients that are healthier for you.  I know that for some it will be hard to break out of the “fast food routine”.  When you are accustomed to doing something it is hard to break out of the habit, but by making small changes in your eating habits you can have a great impact on not only your physical health but also your mental and emotional well-being. When we eat healthier we find that our bodies respond with more energy and our minds are clearer then when we eat poorly.

Eating healthy might not happen overnight, but it is something that you can move towards every day by incorporating something nutritious and healthy into your meals on a daily basis. For instance, instead of having white rice with your meal swap it out with brown rice instead. This way you are still having your rights but it is better for you. Or instead of having mashed potatoes try sweet potato mash.

 4. Work Hard

   It should come as no surprise that in order to have the things in life that you want you need to work for it.  To this, some people might counter that the law attraction states that you ask you shall receive. They would be right and at the same time wrong. Why? Simply the law of attraction does not merely work by you asking alone. You must also take the necessary actions in order to allow the universe to deliver what you are asking of it. For example, if you are asking the universe to help you win the lottery, but you never go out and buy a lottery ticket how do you expect when it.

When you work hard you are not only telling the universe that this is what you want, but also expressing the level of commitment you have towards achieving it. Beyond this, the feeling that one has after working hard for something and achieving it is far greater than the feeling we have when something has simply been handed to us.  I always like to think that by working hard now I guarantee that I won’t have to work hard later because I will have created a strong foundation from which to keep growing and getting better.

5. Stay Strong

     In everything we do consistency is key. You will find that as you are taking the steps some will be harder than others. It is at those times, that I offer this advice: stay strong. It sounds like such a cliché, but nonetheless it is very important that you stay strong and consistent throughout this process. At times, you’ll find yourself ready to give up and throw in the towel, but I am here to tell you that it is at that point that you should work even harder to attain your goal. I have found that quite often people give up on their goals because they feel it has become too difficult and because of it they fail to realize that they were on the cusp of achieving their goals. There will be hard times, but in the end all the work will be worth it.

 6. Worry Less

    For those of us who like to be in control, this step might prove to be a bit of work. For all you worry warts out there I have two words: Stop Worrying! At some point you are going to have to come to the realization that you can’t control everything and that’s okay. Most people are constantly worrying about something that has already happened or about what could happen. The thing is we can’t change the past and we don’t know what the future holds so why worry about either one. The only thing you can control is how you will react in the here and now. So lighten up and allow yourself to just enjoy the moments as the come because life is too short to do otherwise.

 7. Dance More

Some of you might be looking at this step and wondering what does dancing to do with leading a balanced life. Studies show that dancing provides many health benefits, some of which include: weight loss, improved flexibility and increased energy just to name a few. It seems dancing is more important that we thought. Well, the thing about dancing is that it not only does it provide these types of benefits, but it also makes you feel good.

Now a couple of you might be thinking, “Have you ever seen me dance? I have two left feet,” but here’s the beauty of it: You don’t need to be a professional ballroom dancer to let loose to some good music and have fun. Have you ever noticed that when you put on some music while you’re cleaning your house you can’t help it start to sing along and dance to it. It lacks almost like your feet have a mind of their own and they have to follow along to the beat. So next thing you know, you are sashaying across your kitchen singing into your broomstick and what seemed like a boring household chore has turned into a mini-session of cardio and karaoke combined. So next time you have some chores around the house to do, turn on the radio and have a little fun.

    8. Love Often

    Love is one of the most powerful forces in the universe and so it should come as no surprise that it would be on this list of steps. As we have learned, what we put out into the universe we get back, so the more lovely spread the more we get in return. Be sure to let your loved ones, family and friends know just how much you love them. Not only will this make them feel good, but it will fill your heart and soul with joy as well. Many times we take love to be something that we share with others, but this step is one that should be practiced on oneself as well.

Do not confuse this with arrogance or narcissism. Instead what I am asking you to do is to truly love yourself in an honest and genuine way. When you can achieve this not only will you come to the core of who you really are, but you will also find that balance will come to you in an easier way. So love yourself and love others as you would love yourself.

 9. Be Happy

     Last, but not least, the one step that we are all striving for: to be happy. The funny thing is that while we are searching for it we fail to realize is that the only place we need to be searching is within. We also fail to realize that happiness is something that we can have at any point in our lives. You might think, “Happiness doesn’t just come like that,” and you know what you’d be right. Not because it’s not possible but for the very facts that you believe that it’s not. Remember, as we learned in step one, our thoughts have power. If you don’t believe you could be happy, then you won’t be. So before you allow the thought to rise up, instead look at all the good in your life that surrounds you and let that be the force that creates happiness in your life.
